The Six Major Groups of Essential Oils

In general, essential oils of the same botanical family blend well together. These families, or groups, also blend well with members of a neighboring family.

There are six major groups of essential oils:

Woody-Cedar wood, pine

Herbaceous-Rosemary, clary sage

Citrus-Bergamot, lemon

Floral-Geranium, rose

Resinous- Galbanum, frankincense

            Spicy-Ginger, pepper
